Heron Island
Diving
Heron Island is known the world over for its Great Barrier Reef scuba diving and snorkelling. The island’s proximity to the reef allows you to enjoy as many as three different full dives a day.
There are more than 20 different dive sites to explore, more than half of which are just fifteen minutes from the beach. Acres of living, unspoiled coral are literally teeming with fish, it's easy to see why serious divers keep coming back to Heron Island time and time again.

Snorkelling
Being right on the reef means that you can snorkel off the beach. Best time is 3 hours before and after high tide. If you have not snorkeled before or would like to practice, try Shark Bay (named after the harmless Shovel Nose Ray) or from the Gantry just in front of the Pandanus Lounge. Snorkel equipment is available for hire at the Marine Centre.
